Bijan Fahimi, CEO of the Tellus Group: “Language and native language courses are new educational services designed to help drive growth”

Published: April 27, 2023

In a short period of time, the Tellus Group has expanded its business model by incorporating language training services into its operations, with the acquisitions of Omniglot in the fall of 2022 and, most recently, Språkservice 24 in April 2023.

“The acquisitions of Omniglot and Språkservice 24 are important steps toward quickly establishing a solid platform as a provider of language and native language education services,” says Bijan Fahimi, CEO of the Tellus Group.

In less than six months, the Nasdaq-listed education group Tellusgruppen has made two acquisitions and embarked on a new chapter in the company’s growth journey. Both acquisitions, Omniglot and Språkservice 24, are leading companies in native language instruction and academic tutoring.

– In addition to the fact that these companies’ businesses are fundamentally sound, with strong growth and healthy margins, they also offer exciting potential in the areas of distance learning and digital learning.

The Tellus Group has a stated ambition to acquire profitable companies with the goal of driving high growth and improving profitability.

– These companies provide us with a new business area that will be larger than their current offerings in the field of native language education. We see this as a solid platform for providing entirely new services in areas such as career and academic counseling, special education services, and student health.

According to research on children’s language learning, multilingualism is an effective tool for combating semi-lingualism, which is currently a problem for children in segregated areas.

– There is a debate about whether learning one’s native language should detract from students’ ability to learn Swedish. However, research shows that learning one’s native language properly actually helps children learn Swedish better—and other languages as well.

The Tellus Group sees opportunities to make today’s mother-tongue instruction more effective and efficient, which digital teaching methods offer.

– With the expertise we’ve brought together through Omniglot and Språkservice 24, we’re well-positioned to lead the way in the future.

According to Bijan Fahimi, Omniglots and Språkservice’s offering represents a very exciting niche within the digital services and products that fall under the umbrella of Edtech.

“The digital transformation of schools has only just begun. There is much to develop and offer in this area, and Tellusgruppen wants to play an active role in this journey within the Swedish school system,” says Bijan Fajhimi, CEO of Tellusgruppen.
